The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state on Monday has arrested Rahul Mahajan, posted as Clerk in Municipal Corporation Zone-A, Ludhiana, who is resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, for accepting Rs 11500 bribe.

 Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said this case has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Rajinder Pal Sharma, a resident of Farid Nagar, Rampura Phool, Bhatinda district on the chief minister anti-corruption action line.

  He further added that the complainant has alleged in his complaint that he had applied to the office of Registrar, Birth and Deaths, in Municipal Corporation (MC) Ludhiana for correction of father name and place of birth in the birth certificate of his son.

He further alleged that a Clerk named Mohit Mahajan in the MC office has demanded Rs 30000 for making corrections. The complainant informed that the accused clerk has already taken 9000 in cash and Rs 2500 via google pay and the said clerk has been demanding the balance bribe money.

The spokesperson informed that during verification of this complaint, the facts have been found correct that the accused had got Rs 11500 and accordingly a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Ludhiana range and accused clerk has been arrested.

He added that the role of concerned MC officials would also be examined during further investigation of this case. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow, he added.
