New Delhi: Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has sentenced Congress leader Sajjan Kumar to life imprisonment in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. The victim had sought death penalty for Sajjan Kumar. Sajjan was convicted on February 12.
The case relates to the murder of Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh in Saraswati Vihar during the 1984 Sikh riots. During this time, Sajjan was a Congress MP from the Outer Delhi Lok Sabha seat. Sajjan had more than 3 cases pending against him in the Delhi riots. He was acquitted in one case.
In the second case, in December 2018, a double bench of the Delhi High Court had found him guilty of inciting violence and rioting and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Sajjan is currently serving his sentence in Tihar Jail.

The complainant’s lawyer HS Phoolka says that the accused, as a leader of a mob, incited others to commit genocide, crimes against humanity and brutal murder. He deserves nothing less than the death penalty
